Kelcie Mack (1994) presents abstract paintings of furniture that focus on the intimate, familiar connections we hold with objects and their makers. She explores interactions between negative space and the object, manipulating space and dissecting the furniture into its key components. Through her work, Mack calls attention to the value of craftsmanship and the histories that exist within all objects. The paintings are personal as she considers her tender relationship with the subject and attempts to honor the ordinary by transforming recognizable elements of furniture into semi abstract compositions that highlight the complex beauty of design.
